Three Generations of Service

Southern Heating and Air Conditioning was started in 1973 in Lumberton, N.C. Founder JR Ward started his HVAC business with one goal in mind: "To keep the people of Robeson County comfortable." After a career with the local natural gas company, he decided he wanted to be the man people called in Southeastern North Carolina for all their comfort needs. For twelve years, JR built his business and his reputation in the community as an honest, hard-working man who put customer service first above all else

In 1985, JR's son Ricky was ready to take the reins. Ricky is currently the president of Southern Heating and AC and is the man responsible for building the company to its current position as the area leader in residential service and replacement. Along side his wife, Beth Ward, Ricky has been able to provide the people of Robeson County with the exceptional service that only a locally owned, family-run business can provide.

In 2007, Beth and Ricky's son Adam Ward graduated from East Carolina University with a degree in economics. After a short stint in the HVAC and plumbing wholesale business, Adam began working full time with Southern Heating in 2008. Adam looks forward to the opportunity to provide Robeson County the "Customer First" attitude held by his grandfather and father for the next generation.

In another effort to provide its customers the absolute best service possible, Southern Heating employs only the best and most qualified heating and air professionals. Our team has a combined 100+ years of experience in the industry and all are customer service experts. Employees of Southern Heating are instilled with the mantra of JR Ward, "The customer is the first thing, the only thing," that keeps us all going.

In 2011, Southern Heating and AC won its 13th consecutive "Robesonian Reader's Choice Award" for best heating and AC service provider. A contest voted on by readers of the local newspaper every year, this is a true testament to Southern Heating's commitment to customer satisfaction. With nearly 40 years in business, Southern Heating is the oldest locally owned heating and air service provider in Robeson County. It has been our pleasure to serve the people of Robeson County all these years.
